Even if you believe that government mandated health care insurance is a good idea, or if the supreme court decides that the purchase of insurance for health care, (which is not a constitutionally enumerated right) can be legally forced upon the American people, the door will be open for the next logical skid down the slope to socialism.
After health care, the next largest, unexpected expenses that can ruin a person’s life are usually legal fees and costs.
Whether legal expenses are incurred to defend one ’s self against frivolous lawsuits, unjust criminal charges or merely being in the wrong place at the wrong time, these costs can be devastating.
Unlike health care, however, legal representation is guaranteed by the Constitution.
Just one momentary lapse in attention or judgement can result in millions of dollars of liability for a driver, far more than that covered by auto insurance. The legal fees can be staggering.
As a licensed carrier of a defensive sidearm, I know that my use of that firearm to defend myself, even when unquestionably justified, could result in Tens, of thousands of dollars in legal fees and perhaps civil suits and loss of employment. Therefore I choose to carry private insurance should the unthinkable happen, and personally believe it’s a good idea. The operative words here, however, are “choose.” and "personally."
Anyone can sue anyone at any time and if the plaintiff has deep pockets, the defendant can be exposed to life-ruining legal debt.
Unconstitutional laws, regulations and mandates usually start with the best of intentions. Once in place, however, these powers are open for expansion, misapplication and outright abuse.
Considering that congress on both sides of the aisle is mostly lawyers, the next obvious mandate could easily be compulsory legal insurance.
What’s next?
For a hint you merely need to observe how numerous other well intended laws are misused and then use your imagination.
That's my opinion, but you're welcome to it.
